Are you converting or complex 3D geometry ?
Before opening the file in Archicad, clean up the DWG file to reduce errors:
Never import or explode an unverified DWG directly into your master production PLN. Do it inside a blank temporary file first, clean the data, and copy-paste the polished assets into your active project.
Go to File > Interoperability > Merge . This pulls the DWG geometry directly into your current PLN story or worksheet, blending the elements into your active project file. dwg to pln converter
Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Open Object 1.2.4 . Step 2: Select the .dwg file.
If you do not want to convert the entire file outright, but instead want to use the DWG as a reference background to build your PLN file, you have two native options:

You receive base drawings from structural or MEP engineers in AutoCAD and need to incorporate them into your ArchiCAD model.
Inconsistent layer naming conventions between AutoCAD and ArchiCAD can cause display issues. Use ArchiCAD's translator settings to create consistent layer mappings.
When importing a 3D DWG into ArchiCAD, the element will be converted into an object and will not be editable in ArchiCAD. However, the element will be visible in 3D. Go to File > Interoperability > Merge

What or software behavior are you trying to resolve?
If you need the DWG data for tracing purposes rather than permanent conversion into BIM objects, attaching it as an XREF is the cleanest approach.
